..The Word..
I don't think many people realise how interesting it is.. Every time I start reading it, I can't seem to put it down.. I have to stop myself and leave some books to read for the rest of the year.
Usually I'm an ad-hock, random reader.. i.e I move around from the new testament to the Psalms.. to whatever that's thrown my way (sometimes do the flip and point method if I need inspiration or an answer, it almost always doesn't work.. sigh..)
Of course the life of Jesus is a very interesting read, as is the origins of the early church and the persecution the early disciples faced. Psalms has got to be my favourite old testament book, and Proverbs closely followed by Genesis.. But the funniest book (and the most risque-est) by far has got to be the Song of Solomon.. Don't get me wrong, I think it is as God breathed as the rest of the Bible, although some of the descriptions or err.. 'compliments' that the dude bestows upon the lady, I'd prefer not to ever receive.. maybe it just didn't translate well or it's a time thing, or both... For instance, I'd rather not my nose be compared to the tower of Lebanon ever by a suitor (unless the fella wishes to die young) or my hair to be likened with a flock of goats.. But the dude hits bullseye with this verse in chapter 7 "The feelings I get when I see the high mountain ranges —stirrings of desire, longings for the heights— Remind me of you, and I'm spoiled for anyone else! Your beauty, within and without, is absolute, dear lover, close companion."
It is a love song, a beautiful ode and deeply romantic.. With stuff like
Song of Solomon
Chapter 4
You've captured my heart, dear friend. You looked at me, and I fell in love.
One look my way and I was hopelessly in love! How beautiful your love, dear, dear friend— far more pleasing than a fine, rare wine,
your fragrance more exotic than select spices. The kisses of your lips are honey, my love,
every syllable you speak a delicacy to savor.

Chapter 5
His voice, his words, warm and reassuring.
Fine muscles ripple beneath his skin, quiet and beautiful.
His torso is the work of a sculptor, hard and smooth as ivory.
He stands tall, like a cedar, strong and deep-rooted,
A rugged mountain of a man, aromatic with wood and stone.
His words are kisses, his kisses words.
Everything about him delights me, thrills me through and through!
...... Hmn.. Oh, sorry I was having a moment..
So my friend, I think it high time you flipped through some of the books that make up The Bible..
