Racism on the road..

So there I was driving back home after an exhausting pre-wedding rehearsal (16 songs at one’s wedding is a bit much !) and at the Bamba junction a cop flags me to stop..
Usually cops/army/navy personnel are very polite when they are performing these security checks.. This cop however was the exception, he asks me to step down from the vehicle in a rather rude manner (I thought I’d done something wrong.. ) and he asks me for my ID – I give it and because my name is somewhat 'racially ambiguous' he asks me in Sinhala “so are you Muslim, or Tamil or Sinhala ?” I answer in Sinhalese “my mum’s Sinhala and dad’s Tamil, what do you think that makes me ?” he realised I was cheesed off and didn’t want to mess with me after so the other kind officer took down my details and wished me a pleasant night..

They surely cannot ask such questions ! or can they ? Sheesh !
