Trials of a village idiot
The focus of this entry is on the wedding I went to of a technician from work.
The wedding ceremony was in a village on the outskirts of the town, so we had a fair bit to drive..
We greet the bride and groom and say hello to most of the staff there.. and stay mingle for a bit.. then someone from the groom's family brings me a glass of water (I was wondering how they knew I was really thirsty..) I was about to take the glass and drink from it when I notice some flowers floating in the glass, I turn to the consultant, my face looking suitably confused.. and he hissed "Don't drink it !! You aren't meant to drink it.. just touch the glass"
Apparently offering a glass of water with flowers to guests at a wedding (or is it any event?) is a symbol that you are invited to have lunch/dinner, you are meant to touch the glass to accept the invite.. and NOT drink the water.. (just in case any of you were planning on attending rural weddings in Sri Lanka in the near future..)
